1st -14th November 2022, 10am to 5pm (daily)

Private View – Thursday 3rd November 6pm-9pm

‘Verto’ is an exhibition of sculpture, relief panels and work on paper by Neil Wood

VERTO Latin: to turn, turn around, change.

The word verto encapsulates a multitude of ideas about the human condition in the twenty first century.
This body of work explores a general theme of change, in a time when the necessity for change or turning around seems imperative.
The work is an emotional response to the experiences of the twenty first century, albeit  employing a formal mid-twentieth century aesthetic and sculptural tradition.
Focussing on individual experiences, relationships, families, children etc, the pieces are expressions of cerebral notions in a physical form. allowing apparently dichotomous readings – rational / emotional, theoretical / intuitive.
This exhibition of recent abstract and semi-abstract work comprises cast bronze and constructed steel sculptures alongside relief panels and works on paper.

Neil has been a practicing professional sculpture and fine artist for three decades. He has many years experience teaching and lecturing in fine art and sculpture at institutions in the UK. He has worked in various settings; in education, as artist in residence and visiting lecturer, alongside his practice producing sculpture for exhibition and commissions.

He employs a Modernist methodology to explore the human condition in the 21st century. He continues to use the figure as a vehicle to explore formal material qualities and visual language as a means of expressing, often complex ideas, about the world we inhabit and the nature of human experience and relationships.
