SALLY DORRITY& TRACY FLORaNCE

CURVILINEAR
Sally Dorrity & Tracy Florance
12th - 25th February 2025

Before taking up photography full time, Tracy worked for an international book publisher. Her interest in photography began many years ago, when her husband bought her a darkroom kit for Christmas.  This inspired her to take evening classes in basic black and white photography where she worked on three City and Guilds modules all of which were awarded distinctions. Tracy has travelled widely, and takes her camera with her wherever she goes, hoping to capture the essence of the places she visits.  She is drawn to interior and external architecture, in which she attempts to capture patterns and shapes that others might miss.

Sally works in stoneware to hand-build her pots, creating small, medium and large pieces, both functional and sculptural. These are then fired in an electric kiln. Her work is frost-resistant and is therefore suitable for use both indoors and outside. Each piece is unique. In her studio in Oxford, Sally constantly experiments with different shapes, new glazes and glaze combinations, taking inspiration from traditional classic forms as well as from the lines, tones and textures of nature.  She is very drawn to movement in her work. Her ceramics and skills are continually evolving and progressing, as she pursues her fascination with form and texture.

Tracy and Sally have shown their work individually for some years at art fairs and galleries.  They began showing their work together in 2018 under the title Curvilinear.  Following the great success of this first collaboration they have exhibited together regularly in London, the home counties and Oxfordshire.

Sally’s ceramics and Tracy’s photographs complement each other perfectly, with Sally’s glazes and Tracy’s images of reflections in glass and water often echoing each other in form and colour.
